Abstract

The world wide dissemination of texts as well as pictures, photographs of paintings, sculptures, or, films on the internet seems to have intensified the practices of quoting and referencing in contemporary poetry. Therefore, the question arises in how far the global presence of art and literature in the world wide web has a considerable impact on the recent development of lyrical poetics, especially regarding the forms and functions of intertextuality and intermediality. The intertextual dimension is not limited to a certain region or home country but stretches far beyond. This is especially the case if the poet is rooted in two cultures, as, for instance, the Japanese-German authoress Yoko Tawada. Many contemporary poets like Troy Jollimore or Durs Grünbein are addressing an international, if not global reading public, which is well reflected in their works. Thus, intertextual and intermedial references are frequently displayed within the framework of a transcultural setting.
