Riding on the M Train
Patti Smiths intermediales Bibliomemoir
Abstract
In the following article, Patti Smith’s autobiographical book M Train is analyzed as an exemplary case of the relatively young genre that goes by the generic name of the ‘bibliomemoir.‘ The aim is to introduce Smith’s intermedial approach to shaping her biblio-biographical memoir, after a brief discussion of the genre’s still-unsettled boundaries. In addition to the written word, Smith also employs photography – an approach that makes M Train an intermedial bibliomemoir.
